Frequently Asked Questions

In case you couldn’t find what you were looking for on the info page, perhaps the below will answer any outstanding questions you might have

What type of website will I need?

Entirely depends on what you need a website for. Typically for a blog I'd recommend WordPress; for a visual portfolio or a simple business online presence I'd suggest Squarespace; for retail something like Shopify might be the best option. All part of the kick-off discussion.

What are the cheaper options?

There will almost certainly be a solution to fit every budget range, depending of course on the project requirements. There are even some free options available in particular for simpler projects like personal blogs - for example at WordPress.com. The costs will also need to be split into 2 distinct categories; what I, or another digital designer will charge for those design and set-up services; and whatever ongoing running costs are attached with the chosen system on which your website will be hosted.

How much will it cost?

I can offer some super quick tried and tested tips, help and advice starting at £100 and also deliver a fully functioning retail site for £6000 (approx average). Typically an "average" project will take me 2 or 3 weeks (working time) to build and cost typically £1800 - although a simpler site could be built for as little as £600.

How long will it take?

Depends entirely on the complexity of the project and what the site needs to do. End-to-end, from introductions to launch, probably 5 - 6 weeks. This of course includes design iterations, getting content together, cross-browser testing, client training/handover etc. We can also squeeze projects in to as little as a week if required.

Do you do e-commerce websites?

Yes. And I'll probably use Shopify, Squarespace or WordPress Woocommerce as appropriate.

Will my site be secure?

To be honest, not many people in website design, development or hosting could guarantee this 100% but... there's an awful lot we can do to make your site as safe as possible. This ranges from the type of hosting we choose, to updating and maintening your site in line with best practice, to using safe login details, etc. I do offer rolling maintenace contracts to oversee that aspect of a project, but in general, on delivery of a web project, the continued security of it is down to the site owner. But I'm always on hand to help if needs be.

Do you do branding and logo design?

Gladly. Probably one of my favourite aspects of the process. If you or your business already has a visual and branding identity I'm perfectly happy to work with that.

What is digital design?

As I see it my role as a digital designer is to turn your design requirement into something that will used, consumed, purchased, read, watched, clicked or loaded via a screen on a device by your intended audience. That includes understanding what that audience wants and needs (UX), conceptualising that requirement, designing what it will be/look like (UI), building/developing it, delivering it. Although that really is just my intepretation :)

How do I get readers/customers?

I activelly help clients to consider their users and importantly - potential users. Techniques such as SEO optimisation, social media engagement, sign-up forms are just a few of the ways in which we can help to grow your audience.

Do you offer training?

Yes.

What other digital and design services do you offer?

Everything from Sound design to cartoon illustration to oil painting to web design workshops. Just ask.
